Coming off a 0-0 draw against number one West Chester United on Wednesday, Torch FC faced Greater Binghamton on Sunday’s 3-2 win at Pennridge High School in Perkasie, PA.

The game was Torch FC’s home opener match of the season against a side that had lost it’s previous 2 matches and sits at the bottom of the Keystone Conference standings.

The boys in orange went into the half up 2-0. Second half things changed when the high pressure line from Binghamton forced an error allowing for a goal in the 68th minute by Mike Rood.

With 10 minutes left in game, David Shafer was involved in a challenge that left him unable to finish the second half. Pedro Sousa scored his second goal of the season off the bench when right-back Dominick Powers  dribbled his way past two defenders which left them going in the wrong direction for a clean attempt from outside the box. The shot hits the post for an easy tap in by Sousa in the 78′ minute.

After Sunday’s 3-2 win Coach Sparling of the Torch FC said, ” I thought that the starting eleven played a good aggressive game, and passed the ball quickly into the final third and could have had better shots on goal. Also, I thought we could have controlled the ball better in the middle third. Overall, I was pleased with the effort.”

Next match will be on June 10th against a Clarkstown SC Eagles at Pennridge High School in Perkasie, PA.
